What
We Believe About the Holy Spirit
1.
The deity of the Holy Spirit is seen in Acts 5:3,4; Isaiah 6:8-10 compare
Acts 28:25-27; and 1 Corinthians 3:16 compare 6:19.
2.
The Holy Spirit has personhood. The Holy Spirit is referred to with
masculine pronouns in John 14:16. The Holy Spirit's personhood is
also seen in that He: searches (1 Corinthians 2:10), speaks (Acts 8:29),
testifies (John 15:26), strives (Genesis 6:3), helps (Romans 8:26), guides
(John 16:13), and makes intercession (Romans 8:26).
The
Holy Spirit's Work in this Present Dispensation
1.
The Holy Spirit convict’s the world of sin (John 16:8).
2.
The Holy Spirit glorifies Christ (John 16:14).
3.
The Holy Spirit restrains sin (2 Thessalonians 2:3-10).
4.
The Holy Spirit illuminates believers to the truths found in the Word of
God (1 Corinthians 2:13).
5.
At the moment of salvation believers are sealed with the Holy Spirit (Ephesians
1:13).
6.
The Holy Spirit at the time of conversion permanently indwells the believer
(Romans 8:9; 1 Corinthians 6:19).
7.
The Holy Spirit bestows spiritual gifts to the Church (1 Corinthians 12:8-11).
The purpose of these gifts is to glorify God (Revelation 4:11), edify the
body of Christ and enable the believer to serve God (Ephesians 4:13).
The purpose of certain sign gifts was to authenticate the Gospel message
and such gifts have ceased with the end of the apostolic age.
8.
The Holy Spirit has the ministry of "filling" in believers’ lives.
We are commanded to be filled with or controlled by the Holy Spirit (Ephesians
5:18). Such filling occurs many times in a believer's life as he yields
to the Spirit of God who indwells him.
