What
We Believe About Mankind
1.
Man is a creation of God (Genesis 1:27). Man was created in the Garden
of Eden on the sixth creation day and was not the product of evolution.
2.
Man has a triune personhood (this teaching is known as Trichotomy, 1 Thessalonians
5:23; Hebrews 4:12).
a)
Man has a soul. "And the Lord heard the voice of Elijah; and the
soul of the child came into him again, and he revived" (1 Kings 17:22).
b)
Man has a spirit. "Then shall the dust return to the earth as it
was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it" (Ecclesiastes 12:7).
c)
Man has a body. The body is that part of man, which houses the immaterial
parts.
The
Scriptures clearly testify to a distinction between the spirit and the
soul of man (Hebrews 4:12). However, it should be noted that the
words can be used interchangeably at times.
3.
At death both the spirit and the soul continue. The spirit and soul
of man will never cease to exist.
4.
Man was created for the purpose of having fellowship with God. This fellowship
was broken because of man's sin (Isaiah 59:2). The Bible teaches
that man was created without sin (Genesis 1:31). However, due to
man's disobedience in the garden he obtained a sin nature (Romans 5:12).
5.
All unsaved men are spiritually dead regarding relationship towards God
(Ephesians 2:1). All men will one-day die physically (with the exception
of those translated). "And as it is appointed unto men once
to die, but after this the judgement" (Hebrews 9:27).
6.
Man's destiny after death will be in one of two places. The individual
who has placed faith in Christ will enjoy eternal fellowship with God (2
Corinthians 5:8). The individual who dies without placing faith in
Christ will suffer eternal torment in hell (Matthew 25:41).
7.
The Bible describes hell as a literal, eternal dwelling place.
There will be no second chance for those in hell. The unsaved will suffer
in hell eternally (Luke 16:19-31; Matthew 25:41).
8.
Hell is a place of eternal fire and separation from the goodness of God.
"And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into
the lake of fire" (Revelation 20:15).
